Fuji Xerox Achieves Zero-Landfill GoalRecycling Rate reaches 99.8% for 21,200 tons of used products and consumables from all over AsiaHong Kong, 27th July, 2010 – Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has achieved its goal of reaching zero-landfill through recycling. Its facility in Thailand, which is at the heart of Fuji Xerox’s International Resource Recycling System, has reached recycling rates of 99.8% and generated 21,200 tons of re-usable resources from used products and consumables processed in FY2009. The zero-landfill achievement is complemented with Fuji Xerox Hong Kong’s certification obtained from the Hong Kong Green Council for its printing paper supplies - ’Explorer’ & ‘Xtra’. These two paper products are certified as fully compliant with Hong Kong Green Council’s guidelines for environmental sustainability . Launched in December 2000, the Green Council’s certification program is an ISO 14024 Type 1 label that recognizes products produced with reduced impact on the environment.
As a responsible corporate citizen, FXHK is committed to supplying products with good environmental performance and enabling consumers to easily recognize products that are more environmentally friendly.
Established in December 2004, Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing collects used Fuji Xerox products such as copiers, printers and cartridges from nine countries and regions*2 in the Asia-Pacific area, including Hong Kong. The items are disassembled and sorted into 74 separate categories, including steel, aluminum, lenses, glass and copper, before being recycled.
Fuji Xerox’s International Resource Recycling System co-ordinates the collection, disassembly and detoxification of any hazardous materials used in its products from a host of different countries, without the need for any intermediaries. Aiming for “zero-landfill”, it has steadily boosted processing volumes and improved recycling rates over the years. The impact of the initiative has been felt across the region, especially in Thailand where waste has been reduced and new industrial opportunities have been created.
In 1995, Fuji Xerox became the first in the industry to introduce products containing recycled parts to the Japanese market when it launched a full-fledged Integrated Recycling System. In August 2000, it became the first company in Japan to achieve zero landfill from collecting and recycling used products.
Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing is actively involved in government-led social responsibility activities and holds a CSR certification from the Thai Department of Industrial Works (DIW).
In recognition of its responsibility as a global enterprise to reduce environmental impact in the Asia-Pacific region and China, Fuji Xerox launched a second recycling operation in Thailand in 2004, and a third in Suzhou*3, China in 2008.
Fuji Xerox is continuing to implement its 3R - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - initiatives to promote its goals of Zero Landfill, No Pollution and Zero Illegal Disposal. It is committed to further enhancing its Integrated Recycling System, which has become a model for achieving business growth and environmental conservation at the same time.
